explosive devices (IEDs) that threaten the populace and the American military. The team consists of Sergeant First Class William James, Sergeant J.T. Sanborn and Specialist Owen Eldridge. Examination of this
film offers insight into the dynamics of small group communications and their crucial nature to the efficacy of the bomb squad, which rely good communication in order to stay alive
and complete their mission. This investigation will demonstrate how James, Sanborn and Eldridge benefit from effective communication, as well as how various incidents portrayed in the film illustrate how ineffective
communication endangered their lives. Scott A. Myers and Carolyn M. Anderson, in their text on small group communication, indicate that one of the defining characteristics of any small group
is the task that characterizes the groups interdependence on each other, as "without a task, a group need not exist" (Myers and Anderson 8). Tasks are typically individual or conjunctive,
which requires that group members coordinate their efforts (Myers and Anderson 8). Within the context of the film, James is the team member who dons the bomb suit and defuses
