Each type of research has a role to play, but there are also commonalties with the need for objective approaches and methodologies that can be repeated. The starting place for a paper such as this may look to a standard that has been laid down. AS research is such a wide area, one report that may be of use is the Nolan Committee, a committee that put together standards for public life in 1995. As research also needs to be scrutinised, the seven key factors are very applicable here, these are selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership (MRC, 2000). Aspects may include the design of the research and ensuring that all aspect meet not only the researchers moral standards, but also of the ethical committees for the topic concerned, ensure there are cross checks to ensure accuracy of the study and the analysis of the results (MRC, 2000). The consideration of any risks to the subjects also has to be considered, and any relevant disclosures made, as seen with medical research (MRC, 2000). The first stage is the formation of the question, a poorly phrased question may lead to poor research, as it will result in a lack of definition in the research and the processes may not be sufficiently targeted.
