one hand, the U.S. is among the wealthiest countries in the world, and has one of the more technologically advanced medical health care systems. It is in the United States that people can find a cure for almost anything, or at least participate in some kind of drug trial to determine what might conquer an illness. On the other hand, however, when it comes down to society in America, many people simply cannot afford the costs of the fine technology and advanced health care that the United States has to offer. Furthermore, many people cant afford the basic health care - theyre either underinsured or have no insurance at all. While this is a problem for most Americans, and particularly ethnic groups, this has become an especially prevalent problem within the Hispanic community, as it is the fastest-growing minority population in the United States -- and a population with needs and requirements that tend to be different than the Caucasian population. As well see later in this paper, members of the Hispanic community have different health problems than those of other ethnic groups. But Universal Health Care -- known as "Nationalized Health Care" to its critics -- has been a goal of the U.S. government for many, many years and, for the most part, has had the support of most of the American people - particularly those who are underinsured or uninsured. President Bill Clinton, for example, was elected to office in 1992 with the promise to provide a universal health care system, featuring affordable health care for all, no matter employed or unemployed, no matter what that persons wealth or lack thereof.
