of serotonin that normal (Field, 2002). The correlation appears to be well evidenced. However correlation does not indicate causation, although this does appear to be the dominant paradigm with the
indication that depression is a result of the imbalance of serotonin, which may be combined with environmental factors (Field, 2002). Looking at the first of the independent studies that
looks at the role of serotonin levels the causal link between depression and serotonin may be brought into question and then looking at the second study, the results form the
first, which indicate an important genetic link are supported with the different function and the relationship it also has to genetic inheritance. The first study was published in 2002;
