author. In this film there are different presentations of education, the arts, and the importance of sports in many educational settings. The following paper examines education and the arts as
depicted in the film Finding Forrester. Finding Forrester: Education and the Arts The first question posed by the student requesting this
paper is, "1. Does the movie realistically reflect the impact of art education on adolescents?" This film is but one particular possibility when it comes to how art education impacts
an adolescent. In this film the young man has apparently possessed a desire for and skill in writing for some time and yet he keeps it hidden. As such one
could argue that the film realistically illustrates how some educational settings thwart art education for it is not accepted, at least by the students peers. In the film the teacher,
however, recognizes his talent and his mother indicates she knows he is bright but all he talks about is basketball. The teacher then illustrates that this is how he gains
acceptance. In essence, in his school doing well is not respected by his peers and so he does not do his best, keeping his talent for writing hidden. In these
respects it is not a film that illustrates how art education impacts students but how one student is inspired by art education and keeps it hidden.
Even when he goes to the highly respected private school it is not necessarily art education that seems to drive or inspire the students. In fact,
he is told by the young woman/student who shows him around that the students are essentially required to simply sit and listen, never react and never speak out or ask
