However, the truth is that ethnic minorities are often presented wrong, are not part of the process of representation, and the public is therefore often given the wrong impressions, leading to more social problems and more oppression of the ethnic minorities in the United States. The following paper answers 3 questions posed by the student requesting this paper, as they apply to various aspects of ethnicity in the media. #1 Racism in the News In the book " Race, Multiculturalism, and the Media: From Mass to Class Communication" by Wilson et al. the authors present the reader with the ethnic perspectives concerning news and the media. The authors are themselves from various ethnic minorities and so their perspectives are presented in a manner that seems very rational and logical. They indicate that one of the biggest problems in the media as it relates to ethnic minorities in the field is that which involves assimilation. Newsroom policies are something that were, in all honesty, created by white men. The way things are run, the manner in which stories are presented or the manner in which stories are approved of, are all reflective of the white mans world, the world that first created the news in the United States. The reporter, for example, no matter what race, is not the one to ultimately make the choice about what becomes news or how that story is presented. They may have a small amount of influence if it is a newsroom that respects new and differing approaches. However, the biggest reality involves assimilation.
