The advent of computer technology had integrated practically every element of our modern world. The aviation industry is hardly exempt from the move towards the digitalization of critical information. Indeed, due to the high tech nature of this industry it is one of the first industries to emphasize the potential value of digitized information. Everything from maintenance manuals to charts and maps are being digitized in the industry. This move has both positive and negative potential in terms of aviation efficiency and safety. Digitization has infiltrated practically every aspect of aviation in recent years. Computer visualization software, for example, has been of particular benefit in the aviation industry in that it allows the industry to more effectively maintain inventories, photographically document and catalog products, and present comprehensive overviews of particular product choices to those that need to access those products. Digitization is particularly valuable in this respect in inventory management, one of the more critical elements in aircraft maintenance as well as the supply and demand considerations which drive the industry. Thanks to the advent of digitized information, inventory management has progressed from a tedious process involving periodic manually-conducted inventory reviews to a highly automated process which is updated automatically on a transaction by transaction basis. The advent of computer-based information and tracking systems has made this rapid transition possible.
