a powerful connection to our past. Two famous works of ancient Egyptian art are the mummy case of Paankhenamun and the Palette of King Narmer. The following paper compares and
contrasts various elements in the two pieces of ancient art. Medium The two pieces are made from very different materials. The mummy case is described as follows, in
terms of its materials: "The mummy case is composed of a substance known as cartonnage, which is linen or papyrus strips that have been bound together with a gummy substance
in order to form a flexible shell" (The Mummy Case of Paankehamen, 2004). The Palette of King Narmer is comprised of stone, actually a slab of slate. Size This
particular writer could not locate any information on the height of the mummy case but it can generally be assumed that the case would measure anywhere from 5 to 6
feet tall as it contained a human corpse. The Narmer Palette is 25 inches tall and approximately half of that in its width. Technique With the mummy case
we have, as noted, a technique of combining papyrus strips, along with a gummy substance, which enables the mummy case to be flexible and quite obviously sturdy and long lasting.
With the Narmer structure we have a slab of slate that has been carved. Surface Clearly, with the mummy case being made from plant fibers, and the palette
