than the American Indians who were actually here first. Thus, the argument as to whether or not to let more immigrants into the country has valid points on each side. Those who believe immigrants should be allowed to come and live in the United States argue that this country was founded on such principles. Turning people away would be wrong. The other side suggests that allowing mass immigration is just impractical. Since the population growth affects services its current residents receive, there simply isn?t enough to go around if more people are to come into the system. Further, that side also notes that competition in the job market is a major factor as well. There is an even more persuasive argument on the side of limiting immigration.This premise is that the rising crime and poverty rates have risen proportionally to rising immigration. Thus, not only does immigration make life difficult, but it harms society by bringing in negative influences. This has been seen over and over again as groups of immigrants bring schemes to America in order to obtain funds illegally, whether it be through the government or private citizens. Thus, even a compromise by not allowing full citizenship to newcomers could alleviate some of these problems. Still, the cost of keeping the immigrants in jail simply eats money unnecessarily. Another problem that plagues this country is poverty. There are many more immigrants in such conditions today and their presence further exacerbates depletion of governmental resources which is set aside to help the poor. The argument that the country was founded on principles that allows for immigration is valid, yet it should be kept in mind that there are many more people who live in America today.
