Because Cavendish is an old-established, traditional company, there will invariably be fears that any kind of change is likely to be detrimental to the company, and will lead to a fall in value: the presentation should stress, at the beginning and throughout, that this will not be the case, and that the changes which are being proposed are ones which will increase value, enhance the companys reputation, and ease the transition into its new expansion into Europe. Diversity management does not mean abandoning traditional values altogether, and can in fact provide a way in which a company which is solidly based in one culture can transmit those values effectively to another culture: an important point, given Cavendishs aims regarding international expansion. Next, the student could mention the legal aspects pertaining to the diverse workforce, and indicate that it is the apparent contravention of current legislation on the part of the organisation which has given rise to the need to look more closely at diversity in the first place. There have been several examples of incidents which would seem to contravene legislation such as the Sex Discrimination Act and the Race Relations Act: if the organisation is perceived as supporting discrimination in this way, not only does it leave itself open to legal action, it also presents a company ethos which is likely to deter a large percentage of prospective customers.
