life. Crisis takes a devastating toll on individuals, families and entire communities. As Christians, however, we have the ability to intervene in crisis and to lessen it impact by helping the individual(s) confront their problems head on. The Bible offers considerable strength to those that will look there for it. Wright (2003) emphasizes that Christian counseling entails a detailed knowledge of the Bible. The Christian counselor has the knowledge to direct the spiritual search, to provide comfort in the world of God for those that have been knocked to their knees by life. Crisis intervention from a Biblical perspective, however, entails careful and calculated progression. As is the case in every counseling situation, there is the potential for making a bad situation even worse. The counselor must guard against that potential while still providing the comfort, reassurance, and direction that their client needs. Therapy has been reported to be important in "parent training, communication and empathy skills, problem-solving skills, assertiveness training, role-modeling on the part of the therapist and application of the concept of reciprocal inhibition" (Spillane-Grieco, 2000). There are, of course, many other crisis situations where therapy can be critical. The first criteria that must be met in order to effectively counsel another individual is that the counselor themselves must be confident in themselves and in their relationship with God. Only then can they lead another in that direction. The next criteria is definition of crisis itself.
