Communication can take a number of formats. This is true in the business world, in the academic world, and even in our personal lives.
Three of the more intriguing formats of communication are persuasion, seduction, and manipulation. Sometimes, in fact, these forms can all be components of the same goal. None
of these forms are inherently bad. They each, however, can be used with either a positive or negative objective in mind. Persuasion
is one of the most frequent forms of communication. It involves one individual convincing another to do something or to believe a certain thing (Lakhani, 2005). Persuasion can
be based on factual material or on emotions alone (Lakhani, 2005). Persuasion can, for example, occur in a methodical way and revolve primarily around the presentation of irrefutable evidence
(Lakhani, 2005). Persuasion is often a component of a court of law, for example. The evidence that is used can be forensic and based on the hard sciences.
The definition of forensic, after all, necessitates that evidence be able to hold up to the scrutiny of a court of law. Hard facts, however, are not the
