of Canadian leaders are similar to those which occur in the United States. The Canadian Alliance is central to these politics, particularly in regard to selecting new leaders. Several other factors are equally as critical, however. These factors include many which were put in place much earlier in the countrys history. One distinctive characteristic of the political process in Canada is its fractionated populace, fractionation which is based not only on ethnic and racial differences but also on other socioeconomic factors. Important too, however, is the power of the media and the interworkings of the Canadian political system itself. French Canadians Verses English Canadians The history of Canada has resulted in two distinct populaces: the French Canadians and those which reflect more of the English culture. From the beginning of Canadas colonial history the French have diligently tried to instill Catholic and French values upon the country. Their missionary efforts with the indigenous inhabitants of the country stand in testament to this fact. The put in place missionaries which sought to convey the French language and the Catholic religion on the Native Americans. French Canadians have placed high value on their distinct culture and language all throughout the history of Canada, in fact. There is another cultural component in Canada as well. This is formed by the English descendants. Scots, Irish, Jews and Italian immigrants assimilated into the English fraction of the country.
