In analyzing CPKs PEST and Five Forces, we can start to build a SWOT analysis for this company which will, in turn, help company leaders focus on strategic development. Overview - California Pizza Kitchen Partners Larry Flax and Rick Rosenfield launched California Pizza Kitchen in 1985 (Bramhall, 2010). The two were partners in a law practice firm, who left that lucrative profession to start their first restaurant in Beverly Hills (Bramhall, 2010). The partners goal was to capitalize on the growing trend and demand for California-style pizza, which was being fostered by chefs such as Wolfgang Puck (Bramhall, 2010). These days, CPK operates a chain of approximately 250 casual-dining restaurants specializing in gourmet pizzas with toppings ranging from duck, to grilled shrimp, to Neapolitan pizza (Bramhall, 2010). Also on the menu are pastas, soups, salads and deserts (Bramhall, 2010). More than 200 of the restaurants are company owned (Bramhall, 2010). The company also licenses the California Pizza Kitchen brand to Nestle which, in turn, manufactures a line of frozen pizzas for grocery stores (Bramhall, 2010).
