But Michael Jordan is more than just a retired basketball player that could seemingly fly through the air and instantly recognizable advertising spokesperson. He represents the image of a fierce competitor, who delights in nothing more than beating the competition and defying the odds. One can only imagine what it must have been like for an opponent to face off against the man dubbed by Nike sneakers as Air Jordan. There is no competition that is more exciting or passionate than the Olympics, and Michael Jordan was blessed to play in two of them - the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona - and received gold medals both times for his efforts. There has been no basketball player more dominant in a professional sport than Michael Jordan, and in the Olympics, even before his name became a household word, Jordans sheer talent and ability to transform defeat into victory made a lasting impression upon the players who competed against them. In the games of the XXIIIrd Olympiad held in Los Angeles from July 29 - August 10, 1984, the U.S. mens basketball team was coached by then Indiana University basketball coach Bob Knight.
