In the United States the predominant view is that democracy is the only legitimate form of government. There is a belief that democracy should not be limited in any way. The right to freedom is an inalienable right. This 3 page paper explores the ways that Athenian democracy was defined and argues that Athenian democracy cannot be said to have encompassed the concept of democracy in that it never evolved to include the rights of the minorities such as slaves, women and immigrants.
