The level of potential growth will be variant on a large number of factors both internal and external the company and its environment. To examine the influences and the way they may impact on the potential growth, and how they should be considered when assessing the potential for growth and example small to medium-sized company will be chosen that is representative of a large number of companies across the globe. 1.1 The Company A company chosen is a small manufacturing company located in an out-of-town area. The company, which we will call Astro, is a small textile company buying in materials and manufacturing ladies garments, specialising in lingerie, which are then sold to retailers. The company has 50 machinists and total of 10 and administration staff. Contracts are negotiated by one of the 4 man management team with the company manufacturing own band items for a range of retail stores. Therefore this is a company with a total of 64 staff, with a turnover equal to $1.5 million per annum. The growth rate has been stable and steady for the last two years, growing at about 4% - 5% per annum, pressures have increased to reduce costs and the profit margin has declined slightly from 5.8% to 5.3%. The company believe that they have a great deal of potential, as there is access capacity within the factory, and management state ladies will always need clothes.
