Yet, while fashion for men is somewhat feminine--and this will be argued later--it is quite interesting that in this society, cross-dressing is taboo. On a recent Dr. Phil show, the host berated a woman for actually staying with, and having children with, a man who was a cross-dresser. One would think that this man was a murderer or committed some other similar offense as the anger and hatred towards the individual who liked womens clothing showed through. In todays society, cross-dressing for men is considered sick. Cross-dressing for women is fine as most women today wear what would be construed as male garb years ago. Cross-dressing, and the attitude toward it, is something that can provide clues to the masculine/feminine dichotomy in clothing styles. An important aspect of cross-dressing is the way it offers a challenge to notions of binarity, and it does call into question the categories of "female" and "male" (Hollander, 1992). Whether they are considered to be essential or constructed, biological or cultural, no one is certain (1992). The present popularity of cross-dressing as a theme in respect to art and criticism represents, an undertheorized recognition of the need for this type of thinking (1992). There must gray areas. Why should men not wear dresses? Interestingly, in Scotland they do. While Korn front man Jonathan Davis goes on stage in a black kilt, as he plays bag pipes, he is not considered feminine. Yet, a skirt is decidedly so. What is masculine about any fashion?
