BIOGRAPHY OF ALAN GREENSPAN Born in New York City in 1926, Alan Greenspan attended New York University where he continued until receiving his Ph.D. in Economics. Greenspan was "Chairman and President of Townsend-Greenspan & Co., Inc., an economic consulting firm in New York City" (Cooperative Individualism, 2002, PG). He served under President Gerald Ford and President Reagan, as well as being on the board for Time Magazines Board of Economists. He is on numerous corporate boards as well as several non-corporate boards including "Member of the Board of Trustees, The Rand Corporation; Director, Institute for International Economics; Member of the Board of Overseers, Hoover Institution (at Stanford University); and Vice Chairman and Trustee, Economic Club of New York" (Cooperative Individualism, 2002, PG). This distinguished and hard-working man has received honorary degrees from many colleges and universities including Harvard, Yale, Colgate, Leuven in Belgium, Wake Forest, Notre Dame and Pennsylvania universities. He has also received numerous awards throughout his career such as "the Thomas Jefferson Award for the Greatest Public Service Performed by an elected or appointed official, presented by the American Institute for Public Service, 1976 (Joint recipient with Dr. Arthur Burns and William Simon); and election as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, 1989" (Cooperative Individualism, 2002, PG).
