that there are regional differences even today. There is certainly a difference between New England states and the Southern states that is readily apparent by the way that the people speak, live and think. When delving into history, one sees that slavery, the religions to come to the New World and the reason for the settlers journeys all play a role in the types of people to settle and grow in an area. For example, there is a large Hispanic population in pockets of the country such as Florida and California. Asians also emigrated to California some time ago and so the population reflects that to an extent. When delving into history, many interesting ideas and facts emerge. In the text entitled The Enduring Vision, there is a great deal written about colonization. There is much written regarding New England. There is also a chapter that focuses on the spread of slavery from the Caribbean to Carolina. Within the context of this history text, and these two distinct areas of emphasis, one may glean a variety of circumstances that are unique to these regions. It may be said for example that there is much similarity in terms of colonization from the North and South but there are many differences as well. A student writing on this subject may want to compare and contrast the colonization in the North, or New England in particular, with the eruption of Southern colonialism where slaves apparently were the lifeblood of the communities. In the south, the slaves tended the land and there was a great deal of tobacco farming but in the Caribbean, the product of interest was sugar.
