In Edward Myers book "When Parents Die: A Guide for Adults" the book is obviously focused on how adults can deal with the death of a parent. The following paper analyzes and reviews this particular book. When Parents Die As mentioned, this book is obviously aimed at helping adults deal with the loss of a parent. The loss of a parent in ones adult years is something that is generally expected, but no less difficult to handle than the loss of other individuals through death. Adults, although they assume their parents will die before they do, still face many unique struggles when a parent dies and as such this book is designed to address those unique struggles. The book is divided up into logical sections, the first of which deals with grief in general when a parent dies. The book discusses various aspects of grief, the denial of grief and the nature of such grief. The book then moves into elements of a sudden death as well as a long drawn out death due to serious illnesses ("The Burden of a Slow Decline"). Then comes a discussion of the legalities of a parents death in terms of wills and estate matters. From there the work moves into illustrating how families change and adapt after the loss of a parent and how a person can change when they have lost a parent. There is also a section on therapy and group approaches to dealing with the loss ("Counseling, Therapy, and Support Groups"), and then the personal experience of the author involving a letter ("Conclusion: The Letter from Beyond").
