personal-identification regulations among many others. There are numerous attempts at implementing civil rights legislation currently in the works as well. The issue of transsexual rights is particularly involved
when it involves the issue of employment and it is in this area where most of the proposed civil rights legislation concentrates. Transsexuals in the workplace brings up issues
not only of their personal rights but also the issue of non-transsexual rights. It is the employers responsibility to maintain a safe, secure and comfortable workplace for both the
transsexual and the non-transsexual. For now, Europe appears to be in the lead regarding transsexual rights in the workplace. The recent ruling
by the European Employment Appeals Tribunal which clarifies that the provisions of the Sex Discrimination Act does indeed pertain to transsexuals is particularly important in terms of transsexuals in the
workplace (Abrams, 1997; Langdon-Down, 1998). It is this ruling which will predictably pave the way for future rulings and legislation around the world. It is anticipated, in fact
