As the Union grows and more countries apply and gain membership there are increasing concerns, as each countries voice will become proportionally smaller. In some instances the concerns are justified, however, we may also argue that there are also some controls and constraints to prevent the union becoming to overpowering. If we consider both the way in which the union operates and the institutional issues we can then consider the constitutional concerns. The EUs influence encompasses many other issues such as social and political ideas as well as the knock on effects of a free-trade area such as the free movement of goods and labour and the reduction of trade barriers (Norman 11). There are now many more countries which wish to join the European Union due to the perceived advantages of being a member. This does not necessarily mean that they will join the single currency, but it does indicate that they may well wish to as one of the benefits of being in this exclusive club, and as such there will need to be some changes. There are many potential problems of the proposed increased membership of the European Union. The first is the reality of administering an even bigger union with a divers range of cultures and political systems. This can be troublesome at present as there is no single point of contact for any country to the Union, but a range depending on the nature of the contact needed.
