It also considers post-traumatic mental problems. Discussion A disturbing article shows why rape is so difficult to deal with. Parrot describes a scenario in which "Kim" and "Erik" spent the evening together, then drove off together and had sex; the only problem is that even though she had been dancing and flirting with "Erik," "Kim" was saying "no" all the way through the entire encounter (1990). "Erik" believed that her flirtatious behavior of earlier in the evening meant that she really wanted sex, and was only pretending to say "no" (Parrot, 1990). This type of thinking is prevalent among teens, many of whom see nothing wrong with forced sex, especially under certain conditions. Males believed that it was okay to force a date to have sex if she said yes earlier and then changed her mind; they also believed sex was a legitimate repayment for them if they spent a lot of money on the date (Parrot, 1990). They also felt entitled to sex if they felt they had been teased, or if they had been dating the girl for a long time (Parrot, 1990). Finally, when these teens were asked if a woman "ever gives up her right to say no," three-fourths of the males and over half of the females believed that forced sex was acceptable in some circumstances" (Parrot, 1990).
