the Quran the nature of Satan is examined and exampled, particularly in the passages found in Surah 2: Al Baqarah, section 267-268. The essence of this first section (267) illustrates the nature of Allah and His desire for mankind to be generous. The perspective of Allah and of man are outlined. It says: "Give of the good things which WE have produced for you, and do not even aim at getting anything that is bad, in order that out of it ye may give away something which ye yourselves would not receive it except with closed eyes"(Al Baqarah 267). In this passage, then, Allah indicates that mankind should understand that it is not their labors which produce the harvest and their wealth, but His benevolence. His desire for mankind to be generous comes out of a desire to see mankind understand their place in the Universe, not that Allah, Himself, needs or wants the gifts. It says in the same passage of the nature of Allah: "And know that Allah is free of all wants and worthy of all praise"(Al Baqarah 267). Having thus illustrated and exampled the generous and forgiving nature of Allah, the Quran goes on to state that there is one sin that Allah will not forgive and that is to follow Satan. The evil one is shown to have the nature of a thief. This entity desires the downfall of mankind, his poverty and his hopelessness. Because, it would seem, in his hopelessness, mankind will then turn to Satan out of desperation and a rebelliousness toward Allah.
