Essay / Research Paper Abstract

This 5 page paper shows the student had to answer some statistical questions. Questions are answered using t-test in order to compare means of samples; independent and paired. The use of the p statistic in determining probability is also demonstrated. The paper also presents a bell curve to explain the way that they statistical tests were carried out to compare the means. The bibliography cites 3 sources.

is a comparison between two individual groups. The hypothesis we will be testing (the H1) is that the mean daily expenses are higher for the sales staff in the audit staff. The null hypotheses (the (H0) is that the mean daily expenses for the sales staff are not higher than the audit staff. Where there are two unrelated samples that are being assessed on a single variable the most appropriate test is that of a t-test (Dancey and Reidy, 2002). Therefore, we will look at the averages for both groups and will also perform a t-test. When using the t-test we will be trying to prove the null hypothesis, it is only we can reject the null hypothesis that the hypothesis will be accepted. Sales Audit 131 130 135 102 146 129 165 143 136 149 142 120 139 Mean 142.5 130.2857 Variance 149.9 249.2381 At first glance there does appear to be a difference with the mean of the sales staff being higher. However we need to test if this is statistically significant. Now we can undertake t-test and calculate the p value. The t-test gives as a score of 1.5691772 and the p-value (which is a probability value) is 0.074085. From this result there is a strong indication that we need to reject the null hypothesis. Therefore, in this test it appears that the sales staff expenses are higher than the audit staff. Question 18 This question is very similar to the first, but we are comparing salaries of teachers and nurses. In this the H1 is that the mean weekly salary of nurses is higher than that of teachers. The H0 is ...
