La Eme is typically portrayed quite negatively within the boundaries of media coverage. How accurate is the depiction of your language? A. Of all the elements of portrayal that come from the media, the specific language used by the Mexican Mafia is one aspect that is more than accurate. The lingo adapted by members of La Eme as a means by which to separate ourselves from the rest of the community serves the subculture in such a way that it deepens the devotion to our specialized unity. Utilizing both English and Spanish, "Eme-speak" is employed for several different situations where descriptive words are used to define a concept or person. One of the most indicative slang terms -- blood in, blood out -- characterizes the initiation of La Eme members. The idea behind the saying is that a person only becomes a legitimate member after committing a violent crime, hence blood in. After earning ones way into the gang, the only way to leave is by shedding ones own blood, which is most typically done by death for violating one of the gangs constitutional rules.
