In looking at whether or not there is a possibility that extraterrestrial life exists we examine three different journal articles that come from reputable sources. The
first article deals with the long standing question of whether or not we are alone: "At Los Alamos National Laboratory in the summer of 1950, Enrico Fermi, Edward Teller, Herbert
York, and Emil Konopinski talked--as physicists are wont to do--about flying saucers and aliens. In the middle of lunch, out of nowhere, Fermi suddenly asked, Where is everybody? Fermis colleagues
knew just what he was talking about, and his question has evolved into whats known as Fermis paradox" (Nadis 34). It is
believed quite possible that intelligent beings could well be spread out all around the universe and yet we, as humans, see no sign of them, or no sign thatis common
knowledge or publicly acknowledged. The question becomes where are they? However, there are those who also believe that we are perhaps very alone. The problem is that this does not
seem logical. "Why, in a galaxy of hundreds of billions of stars, where planetary systems seem to be commonplace, should intelligent life appear just once?" (Nadis 34).
