biological rhythms (biorhythms) have been known for some time to influence the effectiveness of drug regimes and other medical procedures. With traditional drug delivery systems; although drugs are given in a myriad of forms like pills, liquids, inhalers, and injections; administered drugs typically deliver a burst of medicine all at once and then trail off to nothing. While some drugs are most effective when administered in larger concentrations at one time others are more effective when administered to the patient on a continual basis or in smaller doses several times a day. Research has proven that some types of treatment at very precise times, which are correlated with a particular patients biorhythm, often optimizes peak performance and effectiveness of some drugs and results in fewer complications. Drugs, when administered in recognition of these cycles, can sometimes be given in lesser concentrations with the same or enhanced effectiveness. (Lamberg). In addition to the desired timing of drugs to correspond with a particular patients biorhythm, many drugs, particularly proteins like insulin and other hormones, are known to be broken down by stomach acids and enzymes or are poorly absorbed when taken orally. "Most peptidic and proteinic drugs are susceptible to degradation at the site of administration whether administered by subcutaneous, intramuscular, intestinal, buccal, rectal, nasal, or vaginal routes." (Eyal 4176). Biological breakdown of drugs coupled with their sometimes short in vitro half-lives sometimes makes it necessary, using traditional methodologies, administer drugs at frequent intervals to keep the necessary dosage in the patients system.
