but something that Chinuah Achebe relishes. His exploration into the hearts and minds of men, and murder, are what make up his extraordinary work Things Fall Apart. However, at the crux of this novel is a theme concerning the father-son relationship and that it is not only fragile, but repetitive. It follows a pattern. It is strong, but ironically weak at the a same time. The thesis of this paper is that the author includes the story of Nwoye to strengthen the plots attention to Okonkwos relationship with his own father. The author is repetitive in showing the relationship to be the same in each case but that adds a new dimension to the work. That is, it clarifies the father-son model with further evidence that it can fall apart quite easily. It is a novel which exemplifies the intricacies of the father son relationship. Although Things Fall Apart is a work which has been pulled apart, propped and prodded in a variety of ways, one way of interpretation is to focus on the male bonding relationships in the work. While Okonkwo is the protagonist, and has a remarkable downfall, there are many minor characters throughout the novel which help to exemplify the male dominated theme. The author includes the point of view of many minor characters, one of which is Nwoye, Okonkwos son. In many ways, Nwoyes story contributes to the novels larger thematic elements. In an overview of the work, several things stand out. Okonkwos father was a man who did little and was not highly respected. In many ways, Okonkwo tries to be everything his father was not.
