potential of internet telephony has been realised. Internet telephony has many pull factors, using connection already present on the internet there is the cost advantage, without the need for
additional carrier costs. The equipment to make use of these potential savings is already partly in place, and as such the costs of realising these advantages are less than investing
in a new technology. In order to understand the influence and potential of IP Technology we need to look at what IP Telephony really is and how it works, this
will then help the understanding of the potential both now and in the future. 2. What is IP Technology? IP Telephony is becoming more popular, it may even
have been used by the reader without even knowing it. In effect this is the facility to make telephone calls using the internet rather than the telephone communication infrastructure.
