It strives to achieve wellness in the most natural manner possible, while at the same time incorporating such modalities as acupuncture and homeopathy to provide a well-rounded appeal. "Although homeopathic practitioners freely admit that some conditions are intractable or require the services of an allopathic practitioner, a growing number of orthodox clinicians, recognizing the limits of allopathic treatment, are beginning to investigate homeopathy" (Skinner, 1996, p. 53). In contrast to holistic medicine, allopathic medicine provides a more conventionally prescribed remedy to combat illness and disease, choosing more invasive surgical procedures and pharmaceutical drugs as its primary treatment options. Recently, however, the two diverse practices have begun to actively join forces, the efforts or which are establishing an even broader base of healthful cohabitation. Taking the lead from traditional medicine, alternative options incorporate drug therapy with several other modalities to improve overall health and wellness. A common denominator among alternative health practitioners is that optimum health is the condition of perfect balance in the body--the state in which the least effort is expended.
