everyone in the United States and even globally benefits from the manufacture and production and consumption of mass-produced goods. However, there are
times during which the idea of "progress" can go too far, and this is definitely true in the case of environmental problems and nature. For example, though disposable products (such
as plastic bottles and paper plates) have made it easier on most of us for clean-up, the bottles and plates end up becoming trash, which ends up clogging landfills (and
filling landfills) and ends up turning our planet into a huge garbage heap. But perhaps the strongest environmental/progressive issue facing many cities
today is that of urban sprawl. On the one hand, such sprawl does, in a sense, represent "progress" in that it means expansion of cities and suburbs. On the other
hand, such sprawl takes its toll on the environment, nature and the land on which we live, as more and more of the land is earmarked for development purposes. Even
if such developments include parks and trails, there is definitely an increase in pollution and other potentially hazardous environmental problems as well.
To support our statement, lets first examine the positive impact of development (which we wont necessarily classify as "sprawl"). With the growth of populations to major city centers, many people
