and simple suffering. She suffered physically for her entire life from an accident she had as a youth, and this degenerative pain, as well as her relationship with Diego, put
her in a powerful position as a artist of women. The following paper examines the depiction of women in art as seen in the work of Frida Kahlo. Frida
Kahlo: Women While Kahlo was young, following the accident, she began an interest in art as she was confined physically for many months.
As she grew and developed her own style she ultimately met Diego and married him, pulling her even more into the world of art. However, while in relatively good health
and happy in her marriage there is little of her work that is powerful or outstanding in relationship to depicting women. However, when she and Diego divorced at one point,
"She produced many fine paintings in this period, but being devastated by the divorce, she consumed a lot of liquor, and her health deteriorated rapidly. She had circulatory and
other problems associated with the incidents she had had before" and this began her true journey into the world of art, contemporary art and the depiction of women (Frida by
Kahlo: A story in Self-Portraits, 2006). Much of her work is very primitive in many ways, presenting simplistic figures, for the most
