My decision to apply to Clarkson College to become a radiology technician was a combination of the two; I knew it was the right thing to do, but it did not come without personal reflection and an analytical process. I hope to expand my education in the radiology technician program because of my experiences in the hospital setting, my increasing interest in professional development, and my belief in life long learning. Expanding my professional development in the area of radiology is directly linked to my belief in life long learning as a personal life philosophy. Over the course of the last decade, the focus in human resources departments across the nation has turned to the use of continuing education models to support what has been described as the "lifelong learning movement." This movement has been shaped by the belief that personal growth and development are of significant value and that they define the best route towards creating and maintaining personal success. The lifelong learning movement is based on the idea that educational development is fundamental to professional advancement, and that all people can benefit from continuing education in support of their personal and professional development (Fenwick, 2002). For decades, theorists have tried to determine what motivates workers in the modern workplace and how education, training and learning fall into line with efforts at motivation.
