but it may well always come away lacking in some indescribable quality that makes ancient art so substantial. The following paper examines, first separately and comparatively, two pieces of ancient
art. The works are Ancestral Bust of a Woman (Bust with a long wig) from 1336-1279 B.C. Egypt and Head from a Female Sphinx, circa 1876-1842 B.C. from Egypt.
Ancestral Bust of a Woman This particular piece is made from limestone and was painted. It measures 10 1/4 x 6 1/8
x 3 3/4 in. (Chrysler Museum). The Brooklyn Museum [1] states that "Anthropoid busts of this type, known only from the New Kingdom (Dynasties XVIII-XX), are often described as effigies
of deceased family members." Ancestral Bust of a Woman, or also referred to as Bust with a long wig, is incredibly symmetrical
throughout. There is nothing in this piece that appears to be anything but symmetrical except the very bottom of the sculpture on the right side when the viewer is looking
head on at the piece. At the very bottom there appears to be something of a "flub" of material that seems to sag away from the straight line that is
present across the bottom. In looking at a picture of the piece online there is no indication that one can see the
tool marks, but this may well be different in a very close up picture of the piece or in seeing the piece in person. Overall it is incredibly smooth. It
is also organically white which means it appears to be white but with the coloring of aging as well as whatever paint was used on the piece. There is something
