Anderson traces the history of the children of Israel from their exodus from Egypt during the time of Moses to the dawn of the Christian era. While Anderson relies heavily on scripture-- i.e. selected readings from the Old Testament at the beginning of each chapter, he also utilizes literary criticism, as well as other methods, in offering the student a comprehensive framework for gaining a better comprehension of the literature of ancient Israel. Furthermore, copious footnotes refer the student to pertinent secondary materials, such as articles, essays, and other books.
