There have been charges of a liberal bias in media in general, but that is not completely true. Still, when covering stories, sometimes the most important factor goes to which stories are covered and which are ignored. It seems that certain content is picked up by certain papers. In the New York area, the New York Times is focused primarily on national and international news, as well as business events than are the two other leading papers, the Post and the News. The Amsterdam News on the other hand, pays attention to local and national stories that have to do with race. It is a paper that focuses on black news. Therefore, it plays up certain stories that do not appear in the other papers while ignoring some important news. On May 11, 2005, there was an urgent news story. A plane went into protected airspace in Washington, D.C. and the White House was evacuated. For a few moments, there was a scare, but soon afterwards, it was learned to be an innocent incident. Still, it made television and radio news immediately as a breaking story. The next day, most of the New York area newspapers picked it up. Meek and Bazinet examine, in the New York Daily News, the fact that there was what they referred to as "noon mayhem" over Washington D.C. The article begins as follows: " A pair of bumbling pilots stampeded Washington and triggered a red alert yesterday when they wandered into restricted air space" (Meek and Bazinet).
