The determination of dinosaur behavior is an interesting and complex field. Paleontologists are faced with only fossils to use in making their speculations about such features of a dinosaurs life as how it moved, what it ate, and even whether or not it was cold blooded or warm blooded. Scientist are also interested in studying dinosaurs from a systematics perspective, studying the relationships of the dinosaurs to themselves and to other animals from an evolutionary perspective (Magers). Like many of the sciences the field of paleontology has evolved in step with the evolution of technology. While the tried-and-true tools of the trade such as shovel and trowel, burlap and plaster, stakes and string are still very much a part of the paleontologists toolkit, that toolkit is evolving to include additional items and approaches as well. New technologies have come to the aid of paleontologists by providing the opportunity to change and supplement many of their methods for examining dinosaur behavior. Scientist still expend days, months, and years in the varied climates of past dinosaur habitats trying to unearth new specimens and to safely transport them back to their laboratories where they can be more thoroughly studied (DiChristina). Careful field research is critical to understanding dinosaurs but it alone doesnt give us much real information about dinosaur behavior. The recent discovery of the ostrich-like dinosaur Oviraptor sitting on a nest, for example, doesnt provide conclusive evidence about dinosaur behavior but instead opens even wider the quandary of questions such as were dinosaurs warm-blooded (i.e. Was the nesting Oviraptor warming its eggs?), or cold-blooded (Maybe it was shading its eggs?) (National Public Radio). While the information that has been provided is critical it ...
