it can be inferred that prevention of adolescent suicide requires a thorough understanding of the decision-making process. Lennings (1994) presents a model demonstrating precisely how suicide can be understood as
a cognitive act affected by various elements. The crux of his thesis rests on the idea that time perspective distortions coupled with such elements as cognitive rigidity, covert rehearsal
etc; act as additional factors causing suicide that transcend the common boundaries of life events such as family or peer estrangement. For the most part, Lennings (1994)
suggests that suicide is linked on a continuum with other escape behaviors including drug/alcohol addiction or delinquency. Definitively, escape behaviors happen as a result of a failure in the adolescent
to deal appropriately and effectively with stress and they can be contrasted with appropriate coping behavior that may be found in a significantly large percentage of the late-aged adolescent
population. Thus, to prove his thesis, Lennings (1994) develops a model of escape or non-coping behavior that could presumably characterize a minority of adolescents reactions to stressful situations.
For the bulk of his writing, the author outlines various literature that had previously established theoretical reason for adolescent suicide and the cognitive processes involved. An emphasis
is made again (supporting the authors thesis) on the importance of realizing that killing ones self is the result of a decision. Even those who maintain that risk-taking behavior leads
to suicide, must acknowledge that risk-taking behavior is a decision. Decisions, in Lennings (1994) view, refer to judgments about costs and benefits. A certain act has both a cost and
