for instance, was wiped out, the entire history of that family died with them. Writing evolved out of the necessity to provide permanence. With the
development of writing, people realized that they were freed from the limitations of the oral tradition. Now there could be a permanent copy or record of what occurred and no
one had to worry about either forgetting the information, or altering the story because of misconceptions. Now stories and accounts could be told one way to countless people. (Gair, 1).
Gone now was the necessity of memorizing every story to be passed down from generation to generation because those stories could now be written down. Writing
became the chief method of transmitting culture from one generation to another, for aiding in the preservation of traditions, for bonding people to each other. It was used for literature,
law creation, law enforcement, even the printing of money. Even though writing has become an indispensable art that we, in our information age, cannot conceive
of being without, it actually took a very long time for it to be invented. In fact, it has only been around for approximately five thousand years which, when
one considers the millennia of man upon this earth, is not a very long time. Before there was actual writing, people were drawing pictures to convey
information. However, because the pictures did not portray an actual language per se, these hieroglyphics are not considered as actual writing. By definition, "writing comes only when the words that
