a life of prostitution. When examining the Augustinianism theology we find that this embraces Christian Idealism. That all moral values are informed
by religious values, there is One God who is All Being and that God knows and tells us the best way to achieve the Ultimate End. This embraces the
knowledge that when we open ourselves to Him in thought, prayer or meditation, that it is not seeing that is believing, but it is believing that is seeing (Anonymous tdica.htm).
Indeed, one can surmise that this religious outlook was reserved only for the patriarchal leaders of society, inasmuch as women were not to reap the same benefits.
Women in a repressive, male chauvinistic society -- such as in the time of Augustinian law -- must do what they have to in order
to survive. Unfortunately their actions, such as prostitution, serve to reinforce the very image they seek to abandon. The lives of women have been designed by men under
religious and scientific assumptions which have served to guide every part of a womans life, including her sexuality, mannerisms, physical appearance and education, along with her role in society.
