A 12 page paper. Jay Cooke is generally credited as being the "first major investment banker, creator of the first "wire house," and the Financier of the Civil War (Trumbore 2000). His training was early and at age 18, he began work with a major trading company. This paper reports and discusses Cooke's entrance into banking and finance, his innovative marketing campaign that resulted in selling war bonds to the public instead of only to wealthy bankers, his door-to-door and other campaigns, his venture in the railroad and finally, the collapse of his company. A 20 page paper research proposal seeking to discover ways to increase job longevity among bank tellers. The teller line employees are the first employees customers meet and also interact with during their banking relationship, qualifying tellers as the “front line” employees about whom so much has been written. Front line employees are those with whom customers have the greatest degree of direct contact and in many respects, they define the organization for the customer. Continuity and longevity in that position provide a pleasant experience for customers and retention of the customer base. The problem is that employees see that position as a stepping stone, a temporary stop on individuals’ career paths. This study will examine the reasons why employees view the teller positions as stepping stones and will investigate what would provide the incentive for employees to look at tellering as a long term career. This study will address financial institutions with $50M or less in assets or fewer than 25 employees. Bibliography lists 21 sources.

A 6 page research paper. 'Junk' is the common name for bonds issued by companies with below-investment-grade credit ratings of BB or less. Because these firms are considered more likely to default, they must offer higher yields to attract investors. The economy's long and steady sustained growth over the last seven years has enabled these businesses of questionable credit ratings to prosper along with those with better credit standings, and few junk issuers are having any trouble making their payments. Bonds are attractive to investors of any age. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
