“Independent” Living at Parkview Seniors’ Apartments
[ send me this paper ]
A 20 page paper presenting an interesting exercise: write of something “psychological” in a detailed and personal narrative describing a setting to which psychological principles can be applied. The paper describes the structure and the people of Parkview, a seniors’ independent living apartment building. Though Parkview does not offer assisted living, it does offer many conveniences of great value to the elderly, as well as the security that so many elderly people find comforting. Residents have their own private apartments, but they have built a community within the building, one that helps others when they need help and provides a rich social life for individuals. The paper uses Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as its psychological base. At Parkview, seniors are free to progress through all five levels of Maslow’s pyramid. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

“Lives on the Edge: Single Mothers and their Children in the Other America” by Valerie Polakow
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page report discusses Polakow's 1993 book and the information it presents about American women and their children who live in poverty. The point Polakow makes is that it is an unrelenting struggle in which there are painfully few opportunities for escape. Until American society itself changes its beliefs and policies, women and children will continue to live a near-subsistence level of existence in the land of plenty, equality, and justice. Bibliography lists only the primary source.

“Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”: A Review of the Book by John Gray
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page overview of this book on gender relations. The author of this paper contends that once you get beyond the catchy title of this book many flaws surface. Gray’s almost constant use of comical analogies and metaphors serve more to dilute the important content of the book than to effectively illustrate it. As an added annoyance, Gray insists on repeating his core ideas over and over in almost identical scenarios throughout his book. No additional sources are listed.
