GE has learned that electronic commerce has saved their company a large sum of money, as has 3M. The difference between the two is that 3M is beginning to realize it may not be advantageous for them to reach individual customers with electronic commerce. But, while 3M may not be financially successful with their small customers, other businesses may rely on the fact that electronic commerce enables their small home business to reach many more people than would be possible otherwise.
